A 19th century gold work embroidery probably from Turkish based on the frame around the edges and the stylized flower at the bottom. Two stump work peacocks facing each other at top with a bit of green silk thread woven into the eye of each bird. Bullion threading used throughout and secured to a creme colored silk background. The back is a muslin cotton or linen. All hand done. Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
The peacocks are symbolic of re-growth and rejuvenation, royalty, respect, honor, and integrity. They are also a symbol of beauty, love, and passion. In Hinduism and Buddhism, these birds are considered to be sacred and worshipped alongside their deities.
Measurements
approx. 19.5 cm across at widest points x 18 cm from top center to bottom center.
Condition
As you can see the silk background has even frayed and there are a couple of loose threads. They are stable however and could easily be applied to fabric.
