An 18th century French embroidered fragemt. At the center stylized blossoms and scrolled leaves against a tan colored silk back. At the sides a band of silver metallic trim on a linen base dating from the same period with a peach colored silk back that has a faint woven floral design. The fragment has been saved from a much larger piece and re purposed as a small table mat with newer metallic tims around the edges and a newer liner at the back. Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
42 cm across x 31.5 cm from top to bottom.
Condition
Some bits of missing thread in the embroideries at the top and in the larger scrolled leaves at the bottom which can be seen in the close up photos. The silk backings have frayed with age. You can see how the silk has come loose from the right side of the middle panel and along the bottom.
Left in "as found" condition straight from the markets of Provence.
