An 18th century French tapestry fragments. Wool with some silk accents. Depicting the back of a cherub with a head of curly hair and small wings. It appears that a cloth is wrapped around his bottom. Gentle colors in shades putty, butter, and taupe with accent colors of blue in the wings. Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
Odd shape
71.5 cm from top edge to bottom tip of the foot.
The width is
39.5 cm
Condition
Obvious cut out from a much larger piece at one time. I believe the sections at the top above the figure of the cherub are a later addition and were meant to even out the overall appearance. There is a small hole above the cherubs forehead and next to it some worn exposed threads. In the cloth that surrounds his bottom you will see a few holes and worn threads.
