There are many things I like about this painting. The size, technique, subject matter and the coloring. French in origin. Probably dating from the early 1900's. Bought from a collection of other paintings and sketches dating from the late 1800's to early 1900's. A long narrow oil painting done on wood. Depicting a group of four sailing ships with a small dingy just to the right of the center ship. You can just make out the figures in the dingy. A thick pallette adds to the movement of the turbulent sea and sky which is also reflected in the sails of ships giving it an almost impressionist look. Well composed. Signed at the bottom right hand corner. Would be stunning grouped together with other small paintings. Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
