An extraordinary 19th century gold work eccclesiastical applique. Depicting Maria and the Christ child. All done in a gold metal thread that has now taken on a dark even patina. The faces of Maria and the Chirst child are done in silk with embroidered and hand painted details. She is holding an ornate scepter with leafy branches to the sides and grapes on the leaves underneath. The bottom of her gown depicts a dove and two hearts center, roses, buds and leaves to the sides and a lion at the bottom holding a flag with symbols of war cannon balls, a drum and spears. Photos are a good representation of actual color.
Measurements
64 cm from top center to bottom center x 38 cm across at the widest points.
Condition
Very good condition. The only thing to note is that there are two missing jewel stones missing from the crown at top.
