An 18th century French "Nantes" toile du jouy pelment. Linen.
Front is made up of two large pieces with a small piece at the left hand side. Depicitng groups of figures with fishing boats. Red against what use to be a white background. The pelmet may have hung over a bed or a small window at one time. Along the top edge it curves to a top point and has very "frenchy" looking scallops along the bottom.
At the back lined with chanvre linen and about half way down you see another toile (two large pieces with a smaller piece running across the top). Probably from the same period which mostly depicts figures, villlage scene, a boat and some animals. Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition. More photos available on request.

Condition
Pelmet has been left in "as found" condition and not laundered. There are no obvious stains but you do see age spots in the background linen color which would probably lift with a good soak. There is some fading of color in some areas but nothing I find really distracting and what you could expect on a fabric of this age. The chanvre linen backing has come undone for the most part. There may have been a trim around it at one time. As far as damage there is a split at the top center. This may have been made to fit around a pole.
