An 18th century French tapestry fragments. Wool with some silk accents. Depicting the back of a cherub with a head of curly hair and small wings. It appears that a cloth is wrapped around his bottom. Gentle colors in shades putty, butter, and taupe with accent colors of blue in the wings. Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
Odd shape
69 cm from top edge to bottom tip of the foot.
The width is
42 cm wide
Condition
Obvious cut out from a much larger piece at one time. There are two patch pieces just above the head of the cherub. There are some larger holes along the right side edge. A hole at the top edge in the blue section. Some small holes here and there and some areas where the top threads have worn exposing the base threads. This would be a good piece to use like an applique and to be backed with a natural color of linen.
