I love the look of these 19th century French slip covers. "Joie de Vivre" bohemian look with it's block print pattern of stylized scrolls and interlocking geometrics. The influences of the design seem to cross many borders. Light cotton in weight with design in a very dark aubergine (looks brown) against a light gold background. All hand stitched. I believe they were probably intended for foot stools or chairs that would have had a wide seat based on their size and constraction. A beautiful passementerie in a rosey red and natural linen color travels along three sides. There are linen protective strips around the rounded corners at the back which can be seen in the photos. They would also make a nice set of large pillow but backs would have to be added.
Photos are a good indication of color and condition.
