A framed 18th century French tapestry fragment depicting what looks like an orange center with leaves and a blossom at each side. One single cherry hanging towards the bottom left hand side. Done in wool and silk threads.
The frame is a wood base with gold paper overlay and dates from the early 1800's. It is in deep tones of antique gold.
Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
43 cm from top to bottom x 35 cm wide
Condition
The tapestry fragment has been left in as found condition. It shows signs of wear and some missign thread. At some point it has been attached to some jute straps at the back to stabilize. Colors are good and even. A bit difficult to photograph through the glass.
Frame is in overall good condition except for a few small places of missing paint. Nothing I find distracting and only adds to it's charm
The frame didn't have glass in it or a backing so we took it to our local frame shop in Avignon. The glass is new as well as the cardboad and acid free paper added to the back with metal pins to keep it in place.
