An 18th century French quilt fragment Cotton. Fabrics front and back
Front fabric: Indigo blue resist dye/block print of depicing feather like leaves with picotage brances.
Back fabric: two different shades of pink cotton. One has a pinstripe.
I really like the hand sitching in this fragment which is a repeating diamond design done with a natural linen color thread.
Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
1 meter 15 cm from top to bottom
The width is
71 cm and still shows the selvage at both sides.
Condition
Very good for age.
Front : One break in the fabric about 30 cm up front one edge and I notice threee small areas of slight fading but nothing really distracting.
Back: does show small holes here and there but most of the fabric in good useable condition.
Left in as found condition and not laundered. The batting isn't that thick on this fragment so there are some good possibilites of using the piece for several different project. The quilt has been very well taken care of and has a clean appearance.
