An 18th century French silk brocade fabric. Saved from an old chasuble. Groups of florals, leaves and stems attached to a very light ribbon and floral motif in the background. All done on an iridescent lavnder background.
Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
89 cm from top to bottom squared
The width is
24.5 cm wide (still has the selvage at one side)
Condition
The silks from this period are always good and strong. I have the silk a good yank to test strength. this piece shows lines of wear with holes that cross the width at the center of the fabric and two other smaller splits towards the top. In addition, a hole at one side towards the bottom and a tiny pinhole. Splits at sewing lines along the selvage. So best suited for smaller projects. Some slight dissapearance of silk threads due to age but nothing distracting.
