Late 1700's/early 1800's French toile du jouy quilt fragment. Linen. Shades of dark pink reddish tones. Depicting some swags of blossoms, scrolled leaves. Larger motifs of figures, ruins and animal. Actually 4 pieces of the same fabric hand seamed together with seams running from top to bottom.
A very thin batting has been used as the filler and the fragment is backed with chanvre linen in white.
Photos are a good representation of actual color.
Measurements
73 cm from top to bottom
The width is
85 cm wide
Condition
Left in "as found" condition.
There are some smaller holes here and there and please note holes in the figures center bottom. Some more holes run along the bottom. This is a good piece for upscaling as many sections of the fragment are in good condition with no damage and could easily be incorporated into small sewing projects.
The chanvre linen at the back also shows some small holes but many areas in good useable condition for sewing.
Overall clean appearance with no obvious stains but has not been laundered and leaving that up to the discretion of the customer.
