Early to mid 1800' French silk quilt fragment. Deep red color with a black pinstripe.  Some beautiful hand stitching. Backed with red cotton. Thin layer of cotton batting between the layers of fabric so the fabric can easily be upscaled for pillows.

Photos are a good representation of actual color.

Condition

Fortunately the silk front was made in the period before they started using chemical dyes so it is in good strong condition. I noticed two small holes and there is a larger hole towards one corner and small holes at the same corner. The majority of the fabric in good useable condition.

The back is still in very good condition with only a few small old repairs.

I'm not sure if the quilt was dyed to this color when it was made or at a later period. The batting is also red in color so at some point the fabrics would have been dyed because you never see batting in a red color.
