Victorian era silk velvet cape. French in origin. Royal purple in color with hand done silk embroidered florals along the bottom and along both sides. Linen tie for closure at the top. Neck is ruched and pleated. Silk twist rope fringe along the bottom edge. A long piece of multi-strand silk cording with a long tassel hangs at each side. Tassels have decorative tops with twist strands at the bottom and fly fringe accents. Tassels, cording and fringe at bottom are all the same royal purple color and a perfect compliment to the silver velvet.

Condition
 
Overall good condition with a good clean appearance. Appears almost never used. There may have been a liner in the cape at one time that is now missing. You can see small remnants of black silk on the inside neckline. 
 
Cape is actuall 3 panels sewn together. You can see selvages at the sides and inside. 
 
A couple of very minor small age spots but doesnt' distract. 
 
Fringes along the bottom in good condition.
