Part of a large collection we recently acquired a sample book of Nicolas Yemeniz silk brocade fabrics. You rarely see these up for sale with most pieces either in private collections of museums. This book contains 315 samples in total with a wide range of colors, styles and designs. The book contains silk & metallic brocades, silk brocades and cut silk velvet samples. In addition there are hand written discriptions on some pieces and fuller pages at the back of the book. Perfect study pieces or for reproduction. Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Taken from Wikipedia:
Nicolas Yemeniz was a manufacturer of silk fabrics for furniture and a bibliophile naturalized French in 1817, born in September 1781 (according to his naturalization certificate) or April 15, 1783 (according to his marriage certificate) in the island of Chalkis-les-Constantinople (now Heybeliada, Turkey) and died on April 30, 1871 in Lyon. He came from an ancient aristocratic Phanariote family.
Measurements
20 pages (with samples) in this book 315 samples. Two pages at back with handwritten discriptions
samples range in size from 3 x 3cm to 16 x 15.5 cm
Many pieces 6.5 x 6.5 cm
samples are complete designs and intened for reproducing.
Condition
The pages are worn and tattered through time and bascially what you would expenct on an item over 200 years old. The samples are in surprisingly good condition with only some signs of aging or developed patina on a few pieces but nothing I find distracting.
