A large piece of late 18th century French cotton block print fabric. Saved from an old French quilt. Repeating simple blossom on a leafy stem pattern against a white background.
Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
1 meter 84 cm x 1 meter 32 cm
Condition
Heavily distressed with large and small holes and many thin areas throughout. The piece is several large and small pieces hand seamed together in various sizes and shapes. It's a real patch job! You will also see a patch in the same fabric and one in a vichy pink and white plaid. On some edges you will see original selvage. At the edges where the fabric was not exposed to the elements you will see the original red color of the block print while most of the fabric is faded here and there and slightly uneven in color. Lightly quilted at one time so you will see traces of quilt lines.
The fabric has been lightly laundered using those famous Marseille soaps without bleaching agents to remove dust and dirt. Background was probably white at one time but is not a light grayish color and leaving any deeper cleaning up to the discretion of the buyer.
