I am not fotally familiar with this kind of fabric but believe it to be gingham. This fragment dates from the early 1800's. Fabrics front and back. I love the simple bold stitching.

Front fabric stripes blue  with one large piece to the right and several small pieces along one side. An aubergine/blue fabric at one edge.

Back: has a simple picotage V shaped design  and is a caramel color.

Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.

Measurements

65 x 48 cm

Condition

Left in "as found" condition.

Distressed.

Front:  a larger hole at one side and several small holes and undoubtedly thin areas.

Back: Heavily distressed with many pieces, holes and thin areas.

Stitches are rather large and the batting is very thin so in case you are thinking about taking the piece apart unpicking should go fairly quickly.
