A large 19th century French toile panel. Cotton. Depicts repeating motifs of nest with eggs resting on a large bouquet of florals which are tied with a ribbon. Center motif is surrounded by a garlands of other florals. Colors are two tones of goldish tan against a beautiful indigo blue background.
There are four full repeats on this panel with partial repeat at the top, partials repeats at the left side and almost full repeats at the right side. So lots of possibilities for large and smaller projects.
Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition.
Measurements
2 meters 24 cm from top to bottom
85 cm wide (still has selvages at both sides)
Condition
Light quilted at one time so you will see some quilt lines throughout the main body of the fragment. There are some heavier lines of quilting along the top and the bottom.
Overall condition is good with strong even coloring except for the background which will show some slight variations due to age but what you would expect on a fabric of this age.
Here are the condition factors to note:
-a few tiny holes in main bottom of the fabric that can mainly be seen when held up to the light. Nothing major.
-some small holes along the top edge and the bottom edge so you may loose 5-6 cm of fabric.
The fabric has been lightly laundered using those famous Marseille soaps without bleaching agents to remove dust and dirt. We like to delivery a clean and pressed product when possible but we take care to preserve the color and integretity of the fabric.
