Rare find! This Italian gold work embroidered banner dating from the 1700's. Most probably ecclesiastical. Depicts two sorts of blossoms, one which is Tulips a much sought after flower in the 1700's, and scrolled leaves. There is a silk and metallic gathered fringe along the bottom edge. Lined at the back in a red sateen fabric which might be a more recent update. All done on a silk red velvet. Photos are a good indication of color and condition.
Measurements
1 meter 67 cm in length x 25.5 cm wide (not including the width of the fringe which is approx. 8 cm wide).
Condition
Very good for age. Embroidery only shows minor signs of age. Silk velvet is still good and strong and only shows a bit of pile missing here and there throughout but nothing distracting. Fringes along the bottom have a few breaks and show wear but again doesn't take away from the piece.
